I have no idea really, none.

"Don't assume malice in that which is adequately explained by stupidity, incompetence & neglect." From a lemma called 'Hanlon's Razor' (often attributed to Napoleon Bonaparte) and partly from a quote by Goethe. Still gotta work greed in there somehow eh?

“Canada applauds the decision by Prime Minister Abbott to introduce legislation to repeal Australia’s carbon tax. The Australian Prime Minister’s decision will be noticed around the world and sends an important message.

“Our government knows that carbon taxes raise the price of everything, including gas, groceries, and electricity. Prime Minister Abbott has said that, in Australia, the repeal of the carbon tax will reduce the average household’s cost of living by (in Australian dollars) $550 a year, take $200 off household power bills and $70 off gas bills.

“Our government has reduced greenhouse gas emissions while protecting and creating Canadians jobs – greenhouse gas emissions are down since 2006, and we’ve created 1 million net new jobs since the recession – and we have done this without penalising Canadian families with a carbon tax.”

and Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister,
on behalf of Stephen Harper & the Government of Canada, November 12 2013.

Two very short stories:

1. For several years the Tourette's has manifested as FUCKIN' FUCK! or I'M SORRY! or I'M NO GOOD!. Since reading the press release (above) a month or so ago it has become just I don't know ...         ... Odd. Oh well, a change at least.

2. I go to the clinic to get a prescription renewed. It's a Medicare racket since the drugs I use hardly need control. The first sign of a red-letter day is when the receptionist agrees with me that it is a racket.

The doctor, a retired Moslem woman, and I briefly discuss the unfolding environmental apocalypse. She agrees that human extinction is in the cards within countable generations (say, five). So I say, "What are we doing in here then? We should be out on a streetcorner with placards, shouting." And she says, "Yes, but they would just call us crazy."

A gem, a jewel, a blessing ... she makes my day.

Ignorance is no defence because there is no certain way of knowing if it's feigned - no way to prove it (though disproving may be possible). If the accused says, "I'm sorry, I didn't know ... [the rules, or what I was doing, whatever]" you have either to accept or convict.

But with or without a judgement, shunning is cheap and effective punishment - self-fulfilling too, guilt & shame are assured. Even better if it's unofficial - silence & neglect - a death sentence.

But you know all this eh?
